North Pacific: northern Sea of Japan to the Bering Sea and to northern British Columbia, Canada; more common in the northwestern Pacific.
Morphology: Dorsal spines (total): 8 - 9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 21 - 22; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 18 %26#150; 20. Caudal fin rounded. Pelvic fins small.
Biology: Found near shore (Ref. 2850); often well above the bottom (Ref. 48798).
