Eastern Pacific: Three subspecies recognized: Dactyloscopus pectoralis pectoralis from the Gulf of California and the outer coast of Baja California, Dactyloscopus pectoralis fallax from Sinaloa, Mexico to Ecuador, including Cocos Island, and Dactyloscopus pectoralis insulatus from the Revillagigedo Islands.
