Eastern Central Pacific: Monterey Bay in California, USA to southern Baja California and Guadalupe Island (off northern central Baja California) in Mexico.
Morphology: Dorsal spines (total): 12 - 12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 16 - 17; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 13 – 14
Biology: Occurs over rocky bottom in clear water, often near crevices and small caves, occasionally in kelp. Adults defend a home territory. Feeds mainly on attached invertebrates. Has been reared in captivity (Ref. 35420).
