Eastern Indian Ocean and Western Pacific: India, Thailand, and the three coasts of Australia.
Morphology: Dorsal spines (total): 7 - 7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10 - 11; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 9 – 10; Vertebrae: 26. Upper pectoral fin rays entire. Predorsal cycloid scales 12-16; trunk, ctenoid. 1-2 rows of scales on antero-dorsal portion of operculum. Body whitish-yellow. 2nd dorsal fin with 3 longitudinal rows of short lines; pelvic and anal fins of female not as heavily pigmented as in males; pectorals clear, base with spots. Sexual dimorphism exists in fins' degree of pigmentation and length.
Biology: Found in areas with rocky bottom, or in patchy reef, sand, and rubble areas, Ref. 48637.
