Morphology: Dorsal spines (total): 2 - 4; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14 - 14; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 10. Large head and a very large light-producing organ beneath eye (Ref. 26938). Dark chocolate brown. Luminous organ light yellow, curtain black. Iris dark (Ref. 37108).
Biology: Inhabits steep drop-offs (Ref. 7251). Observed only on moonless nights (Ref. 9710). Moves to deep water during the day and ascends to near top of drop-offs at night (Ref. 26938).
