Distribution:
Western Pacific: Indonesia and the Philippines. Reported from Taiwan (Ref. 5193).
Morphology: Dorsal spines (total): 12 - 12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12 - 13; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 8. Dorsal profile of head steeply sloped; eye relatively large. Preorbital bone slightly narrower than eye diameter. Preopercular notch and knob poorly developed. Scale rows on back rising obliquely above lateral line. Presence of a brown to golden spot at base of uppermost pectoral ray.
Biology: Inhabits coral reefs, presumably in shallow water (less than 30 m).
