Distribution:
Indo-Pacific: Laccadive Islands to Fiji, north to the Ryukyu Islands.
Morphology: Dorsal spines (total): 12 - 12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13 - 13; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 8 – 9. Color is red dorsally, shading to pinkish white ventrally. A pale spot is on the caudal peduncle. Fins are red.
Biology: Inhabits reefs and rocky bottoms. Feeds on benthic and planktonic invertebrates and possibly small fishes. Marketed fresh or dried-salted.
