Western Atlantic: North Carolina, USA and northern Gulf of Mexico to the Antilles (Ref. 26340) and the Guianas.
Morphology: Dorsal spines (total): 0 - 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10 - 11; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 10 – 11. Side of body with about 8 obscure dark blotches; lower jaw symphysis with a fleshy knob; no black patch on shoulder girdle under gill cover (Ref. 13608).
Biology: Absent from the shore zone.
