Indo-West Pacific: east coast of Africa to Japan, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
Morphology: Dorsal spines (total): 6 - 6; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13 - 15; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 12 – 14. Reddish, darker above; some specimens with a blue stripe from eye through gill opening and pectoral base to halfway back on body (Ref. 6660).
Biology: Feeds on scales of fishes.
