Distribution:
Pacific Ocean: Hawaiian Islands. Recently recorded from northeastern Taiwan (Ref. 54421). Specimens reported from other areas probably represent different species.
Morphology: Dorsal spines (total): 0 - 0; Anal spines: 2. Snout short, conical; eyes large, its diameter greater than snout length. Scales small, with very small, conical, erect spinules. Margins along the leading edge of the snout, supranarial ridges, and a median nasal ridge black; first dorsal fin uniformly dusky.
Biology: Feeds on shrimp-like crustacean and squid (Ref. 1371).
