Western Central Atlantic: western Caribbean, the Straits of Florida off Cuba, and the Atlantic off northeastern Florida.
Morphology: Dorsal spines (total): 2 - 2; Anal spines: 0. Scales rather large, with slender conical to somewhat lanceolate and flattened spinules arranged in widely divergent V row or in quincunx order. Snout with black margin along its leading edge only; gums all white; first dorsal fin uniformly blackish.
